In order to be able to write about new balls, you have to own them. That’s why I had to organize a lot of footballs. Simply stacking them all in a corner or in the basement was not an option for me.
First Attempts
At first, I had the idea to build a long frame out of wire. It would be stabilized by rings, and the balls would be stacked in a row. The connections could be soldered. However, that went terribly wrong. Soft soldering is really not optimal in this case, and since the wire is sold on a spool, it was nearly impossible to straighten it with normal household tools.

Variant 2 was then optimized enough to actually stack balls in it. Round wooden pieces provided the stability, while the rings were still made of metal wire. This version was quite acceptable, although you need a wall mount when the tower exceeds about 6 balls. However, I still wasn’t completely satisfied with the whole thing.
The Final Version
After being inspired by Amazon, I built the variant with chains. I bought 10 m of chain for about €12 at the hardware store, which is enough for 6 balls. However, ceiling mounting is necessary here. With a ceiling hook, everything holds wonderfully!

Do you want to build the holder yourself? I have noted down the measurements and will summarize everything in the next section.
How to: Build Your Own Ball Holder!
I chose a knotted chain for the chain. The advantage compared to regular link chains is the significantly lower price. With a thickness of 1.6 mm, it costs about €12 per meter. The length of the three main chains depends on how many balls you want to hang and how much space is available. In my setup, each chain is 2.00 m long. The three chains are attached to the ceiling using an eye bolt with a quick release. I leave 30 cm of slack until the first ball is hung, which is where the first ball is attached. The others follow in my setup at intervals of 25 cm each. Visually, 30 cm would also look good.

How is the ball held in the proper position? A 66 cm long chain is attached around the main chains, meaning every 22 cm it is connected to the main chain with cable ties. This cable tie method has proven to be simple and visually unobtrusive. All other variants would have become too expensive. With a regular chain, you could have cut the link in the middle and done without the cable ties. Unfortunately, that is not possible with a knotted chain.
